The true emperor of all Chinese dumplings has to be Xiao Long Bao (小笼馒头). These small packets of awesomeness originating from Shanghai are commonly referred to as soup dumplings in the English nomenclature. With thinner dough than a typical dumpling, the contents consist usually of pork and/or crab filling surrounded in a piping hot broth. Just the thing to hit the spot on a cold, wintry evening.

The best part of Xiao Long Bao however is eating them, so join us on our 2012 Epic NYC Xiao Long Bao tour! We plan to start with one of the more well-known names in NYC Shanghainese cuisine, Joe’s Ginger, in Chinatown at 6:00 PM this Tuesday, January 17 and work our way to three other destinations that evening.
DETAILS
Date: TUESDAY, JANUARY 17, 6 PM
Start: JOE’S GINGER – 25 PELL STREET
Cost: $28 PER PERSON
Signup: http://gidsy.com/activities/5498/nyc-chinatown-soup-dumpling-tour
You might ask yourself what does $28 get you? It gets you DUMPLINGS and a lot of them, so you do not have to fumble around for cash to buy them yourself during the tour (though you are certainly free to order more food if you wish).
